LAWNDALE — While it wasn’t the start Burns football had desired for its 2025 season , the Bulldogs served notice there’s still time for them to turn things around.

After back-to-back losses to rivals Crest and Kings Mountain, Burns collected its first win of the season with a 52-0 rout of East Gaston at Ron Greene Stadium.

“We’re not used to going a while without winning around here,” said Burns football coach David Devine. “It’s nice to get (that winning feeling) again. It’s good for our players, our coaches and everybody involved.”

No one in the Burns locker room believed a 41-point loss in its opener to Crest was a true reflection of the team. The group thought a Week 2 effort against Kings Mountain was much closer to that, albeit in a 40-34 loss.
