GARRETSON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Four local organizations and businesses teamed up to host an event centered on Indigenous foods and ingredients just outside of Garretson.
Those partnering organizations and businesses are Circle Clinical Research , South Dakota Urban Indian Health , Watecha Bowl , and Glean For Good Farm .
Participants helped gather fresh ingredients and wild edibles to prepare a family-style meal using Indigenous recipes.
“Our motto is, ‘Envisioning a world in which those with abundance have no extra, and those with little have enough,’” said Beth Jensen with Glean for Good Farm.
“This event is bringing awareness to Indigenous cuisine on a level of basically humanity. Old cooking techniques, old flavor profiles,” said local chef Koel Eastman.
