Police in Prince George responded to multiple incidents on Friday, including serious building fires and vehicle accidents involving ambulances. Amid this chaos, officers encountered a man allegedly under the influence, driving a small toy car through busy traffic on Fifteenth Street.

The unusual scene unfolded around 9 a.m. during the morning commute, as the man navigated the streets in a vehicle designed for children. Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, a spokesperson for the RCMP, explained the situation in a news release. "Our police officer conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle to assess what was happening," she said.

According to Cooper, any vehicle on a roadway that is powered by anything other than human strength qualifies as a motor vehicle. This means it must be operated by a licensed driver and insured. "While it might seem to some to be an inefficient use of police time to pull over a driver in a toy car, the risk the driver was creating to other motorists on the road who were forced to go around him — coupled with the risk to himself as other drivers are not in the habit of looking for toy cars on the busy road — was enough to warrant police attention," she added.

After stopping the toy car near Nicholson Street, the officer suspected the driver was impaired. Further investigation revealed that the man also had a suspended license. He was arrested for prohibited driving, and two breath samples indicated he was over the legal limit for alcohol.

As a result, the driver received a 90-day prohibition from driving, regardless of the type of vehicle he chooses in the future. He is scheduled to appear in court in December.
