SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Since Sept. 9 is National Iguana Awareness Day, CVHP interviewed Ella's Reptile Sanctuary and Rescue about iguanas and what makes them unique.

Iguanas are a large member of the lizard family Iguanidae, according to Britannica. Ava Miller from Ella's Reptiles Sanctuary and Rescue told the publication that there are a few different types of species of iguanas. Miller stated that every different color iguana is its own species. Miller said the three main species are the Red Iguanas, Blue Iguanas, and the most famous ones, the Green Iguanas.

Miller told the publication that iguanas can get up to around 15 to 20 pounds and grow to about 5 feet to 7 feet long when their fully grown adults. These creatures are herbivores and eat several times a day.
