The family of a 19-year-old man who drowned in Thetis Lake say his body has been found.

West Shore RCMP were called for the report of drowning Thursday (Sept. 4) shortly after 5 p.m.

Witnesses saw the man go under and not resurface, police said in a statement.

“Several bystanders attempted to assist but were unable to locate him.”

Police, BC Emergency Health Services, CRD Regional Parks staff and View Royal Fire Rescue and emergency crews searched into the late evening.

Recovery efforts were suspended overnight with emergency crews, including View Royal Fire and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, returning Friday.
