CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - There’s a lot more purple in the UNI-Dome this football season as the University of Northern Iowa continues a multi-million dollar renovation.

This renovation of the UNI-Dome is happening in three phases to modernize the building - from the roof to the track.

This is the first time major upgrades have been done to the dome since in opened in the ’70s.

“When you ask people, ‘What are the iconic buildings in the state of Iowa?’ You think of the Capitol and you think of the UNI-Dome,” said Megan Franklin, the Director of Athletics at UNI.

The UNI-Dome turns 50 next year. Before its big birthday, it’s been getting a bit of a Facelift.

“Big changes for our fans,” Franklin said.
