SHELTON, Conn. (WFSB) - Local leaders and residents were scheduled to meet on Tuesday night in Shelton for the first series of public meetings focused on long-term flood prevention efforts across the Naugatuck Valley.

The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments (NVCOG) is presenting new designs to repair and improve failing culvert and drainage systems in nine flood-prone areas.

The projects aim to prevent the kind of widespread damage caused by last year’s devastating storm , which dropped several inches of rain on the region on Aug. 18, 2024.

Tuesday’s meeting at Shelton Town Hall focused on proposed upgrades for flood-prone streets in Shelton and Ansonia.

Planned improvements in Shelton include Oak Avenue, Congress Street, Union Street, and Center Street.
