The city is relocating a water main in east Hamilton to help pave the way for the long-delayed light rail transit (LRT) project.

Lane reductions will begin Sept. 15 on Queenston Road at Rosewood Road and are expected to be in place for three months, according to a release. The water main relocation — on Queenston from Delena Avenue to Rosewood — is part of the LRT project and will “provide a future corridor for other utilities when LRT civil works commence.”

The 14-kilometre LRT route stretches from McMaster University to Eastgate Square.

The city said the removal of the existing water main within the intersection of Queenston and Rosewood will begin Sept. 15 and two lanes of traffic will be maintained, with minor traffic stoppages for one to two weeks.
