A 29-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested, police say, after a girl who was shopping with her mother at a Port Colborne store Monday was inappropriately touched and recorded.

At 7:10 p.m., Niagara Regional Police were called about the incident, which is alleged to have occurred earlier in the day.

Police said a man was seen following the two throughout a store without their knowledge. At one point, the child was briefly separated from her mother, and the man approached her, inappropriately touched her and took an image or video of her, police said.

Police said the girl immediately told her mother about what happened, and they tried to find the man. However, he actively avoided them.

The mother then told employees, who assisted police in reviewing store surveillance.
