Sixteen speed cameras were damaged by vandals in Toronto overnight, police confirmed Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Premier Doug Ford said it’s time for Ontario municipalities to put the brakes on speed cameras , calling the automated devices “a tax grab.”

Toronto police Duty Insp. Peter Wallace is expected to update reporters on the vandalism at 3:30 p.m.

There are 150 speed cameras in Toronto , meaning that over 10 per cent of them were hit in the past 24 hours.

The incidents are just the latest in an ever-increasing mystery sweeping Toronto, with the Parkside Drive camera, which has been cut down multiple times over the past year, being the most popular target.
