A multi-million pound deal to improve the lives of people in two of Derby’s most poverty-stricken areas is “desperately needed”. Normanton and Arboretum are to receive “long overdue” funds from a £3 million cash pot to make communities “thrive” across the region.

Arboretum councillor Cecile Wright told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) she hopes the funds will give residents in the city’s most deprived wards “hope”.

Information provided from Derby City Council states a “brutal truth” that 58 per cent of children aged 0 to 15 in Arboretum and 56 per cent in Normanton live in “absolute low-income families”.
