LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Jefferson County Public Schools announced Tuesday that the district has broken ground on its latest state-of-the-art school, Kerrick Elementary.

The new school, a key project for the district, is slated to open in Fall 2027 and the facilities will boast high-tech improvements for students.

The single-story, 80,330-square-foot facility is projected to cost about $30.2 million.

The building is designed by JRA Architects. Designers listened to input from teachers and the principal.

Kerrick Elementary’s features will include:

● Energy-efficient windows and a geothermal heating and cooling system with energy conserving LED lights.
