The University of Victoria has received $5 million in funding from the Mastercard Foundation’s EleV Program aiming to advance Indigenous programs and initiatives.

The EleV Program works with Indigenous organizations and communities across Canada.

“Our goal is to transform education and employment systems in Canada to support 100,000 Indigenous young people to complete post-secondary education and transition to meaningful livelihoods by 2030,” reads a statement on Mastercard Foundation’s website.

UVic is one of 30 organizations across Canada to receive donations.

“For us at UVic, this donation will help us move forward with our commitments to reconciliation, to increasing and sustaining Indigenous-led initiatives and (towards) Indigenous leadership across the institution,” said Robina T
