PHOENIX — Arizona's largest hospital network is caught up in the confusion over COVID-19 shots.

A 72-year-old cancer survivor who contacted her primary care doctor at Banner Health was denied a prescription.

“I've always been able to go get it without a problem. And, you know, easy peasy,” Cathy Chapman said in an interview.

Vaccinations are vital for Chapman. Her immune system was wiped out after several bouts with cancer.

“It's very important I have my vaccines. The fact that it's so hard doesn't make sense to me,” she said.

The Gilbert resident's first stop for the COVID-19 vaccine was her primary care doctor at Banner Health.

Chapman provided the email that she got in response from her doctor:

“I find that to be kind of flimsy,” Chapman said.
