Donations to charity and nonprofits can provide tax advantages when it comes to fling income tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service.

Dennis Linden, director at CBIZ in Independence. said there are multiple means for donors to support causes they champion and to gain advantages during tax preparations.

One mechanism is to create a donor advised fund, or a charitable giving account that allows an individual to receive an immediate tax deduction but then disperse monetary donation over a specified future time span, Linden said.
