WASHINGTON — Police say a suspect is in custody after conservative political activist Charlie Kirk was shot at an event Wednesday at Utah Valley University.

“We are confirming that he was shot and we are praying for Charlie,” Aubrey Laitsch, public relations manager for Turning Point USA told The Associated Press.

A law enforcement official briefed on the shooting told The Associated Press that Kirk is being treated and is in critical condition.

Who is in custody for the shooting?

It's not yet known who the suspected shooter was, as of 3:50 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, only that police say one person is in custody in relation to the shooting.
