PORTLAND, Ore. — A body recovered near Wiesendanger Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is confirmed to be the missing 49-year-old hiker reported overdue Wednesday morning.

Around 8:15 a.m., the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office received multiple reports of a hiker that was overdue on their return. A short time later, a separate 911 caller reported a body being recovered from the base of Wiesendanger Falls along the Larch Mountain Trail, the same general area where the hiker was reported missing, the sheriff's office said.

The incidents were initially being treated as separate cases; the sheriff's office has since confirmed to KGW that the body recovered is the missing hiker and that it appears that the hiker accidentally fell.
