There’s bad news for those hoping to revive rail travel on Vancouver Island.

The Island Corridor Foundation says the Wesley Ridge fire destroyed two of its trestles near Cameron Lake with the status of a third still unclear.

The Wesley Ridge fire has faded from the news headlines, but hot spots are still visible, and slides from the ridge are still common.

“Daily. Two nights ago, there was a huge one around midnight very close to the cabins,” said Esther Verheyen, the Owner of Cameron Lake Resort. “Huge rocks, trees, I don’t know. You don’t see it, but you hear it, so that’s an ongoing thing that’s happening.”
