Opposition Leader Sussan Ley has apologised to Indian Australians on behalf of Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, but failed to explain why she waited more than a week to do so.

The apology came a day after Ms Ley sacked Ms Price from the shadow cabinet, following the senator’s refusal to support her leadership or apologise for her remarks.

While shadow attorney-general Julian Leeser apologised on her behalf after just days, Ms Ley decided she would also apologise on behalf of Ms Price after more than a week.

“I take this opportunity as Leader of the Liberal Party to apologise to all Indian Australians and indeed others who were hurt,” she told reporters on Thursday.
