GREAT BEND, Kan. (KSNW) — The Barton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening.

Sheriff Brian Bellendir confirmed deputies were called just after 6:40 p.m. to the crash on Chisholm Trail, near the southeast corner of Great Bend, just outside the city limits.

When deputies arrived, they found one person dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office says the driver left before law enforcement arrived.

Investigators are now reviewing nearby security camera footage in hopes of identifying the suspect vehicle.

Bellendir said the investigation is active and more details will be released as they become available.
