WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Wichita and Goddard Native Zander Harris was a middle school student when 9/11 happened, and it inspired him to fight for his country.

"I don't like bullies, no matter what form. They come in, and the military was my way of fighting back," he said.

After high school in 2007, Harris joined the Marines and trained to be a motor transport operator.

"A driver knows how to get into a truck, turn it on, and drive it. An operator knows exactly what that truck can or cannot do," he said.

Harris was then sent to Camp LeJeune in North Carolina, where he got to enjoy the great outdoors when he wasn't transporting troops or supplies.

"Plenty of fishing, plenty of hunting, and lots of people who like to have fun outdoors," he said.
