The Reno City Council voted 6-1 Wednesday, Sept. 10, not to appeal the rejection of the StoneGate project in the North Valleys. The Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Commission denied the proposal last month , and the council agreed to leave any appeal to the developer.

In May, the council approved a zoning change that shifted the plan from 5,000 homes to mostly industrial uses. That vote came despite the city’s planning commission opposing the project in April .

The original 2018 approval included 5,000 housing units, 1.2 million square feet of commercial and industrial space and land for two elementary schools and a high school in Cold Springs. Supporters said it would help ease Northern Nevada’s housing shortage.
