Just hours after US conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated, Australian left-leaning political influencers turned their attention to criticising the father of two.

Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump, was fatally shot in the neck while addressing thousands of students at Utah Valley University on Thursday (Australian time).

Authorities have described the killing as a “political assassination”, and the 31-year-old leaves behind his wife Erika and their two young children.

While tributes poured in from across the political spectrum— including from the Australian government —some focused instead on attacking Kirk’s political legacy.
