BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. — Bullitt County Public Schools unveiled a new realignment plan, which would shift some students to different schools to balance enrollment and cut down on overcrowding.

Located near the edge of Bullitt County in West Point, Nichols Elementary is set to close by the end of the year as part of the redistricting plan.

Shelby Hutchinson, who has lived in Bullitt County all her life, has two children who attend the same school she and even her father attended. She said the proposed closure would hurt families living in the least populated part of the county.

“Closing down the school in that area is telling all the people in our community that our values do not matter,” Hutchinson said.

The Hutchinsons are one of many families affected by BCPS’ plan to close Nichols. Hut
