BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Gov. Jeff Landry ordered flags to fly at half-staff Thursday and Friday in Louisiana after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, 31, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University's campus Wednesday. Two people had been detained but were released after authorities determined that neither was connected to the shooting. As of Thursday morning, authorities believe that the shooter blended in on campus and reported that a rifle was recovered.

Landry's executive order stated that Kirk had visited the state several times and had a visit to LSU scheduled for Oct. 27. He asked that residents join him and First Lady Sharon Landry in prayer for Kirk's family, friends and students involved in Turning Point USA chapters.
