KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- American flags in Missouri will fly at half-staff following the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, September 10.

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe announced on X that flags are flown at half-staff through Sept. 14, per direction from President Donald Trump.

The announcement comes just hours after Kirk, 31, was fatally shot in the neck while speaking at a Utah University on Wednesday. The shooting prompted calls for prayer, well-wishes and reform from government officials at the local, statewide and national levels.

Earlier Wednesday, Gov. Kehoe said he was "deeply saddened" by the news of Kirk's death.
