GRAND FORKS — Ben Strinden didn't want to give up his Iron Man title.

He told his teammates that, too.

"He called his shot," UND coach Dane Jackson said. "He said he was going to defend his title and he did."

Strinden, a senior forward from Fargo, won UND's Iron Man competition for the third season in a row.

The competition is a series of on-ice and off-ice strength, conditioning, agility and speed tests. There were 16 total tests this season.

Strinden is the first three-time winner since Cole Smith, who is now with the Nashville Predators. Smith won as a freshman, junior and senior.

The last player to win three consecutive years was Chris Porter in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Porter played in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild.
