SHREVEPORT, La. — The YMCA of Northwest Louisiana hosed its annual commemorative stair climb in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The event, now in its eighth year, invited community members to climb 1,980 steps — the same number as the World Trade Center — as a tribute to the 2,977 lives lost.

Eight stair masters were set up in the lobby of the BHP YMCA in Shreveport. Participants were able to reserve 25-minute time slots beginning at 5 a.m. today. The event was open to both YMCA members and non-members.

Organizers say the climb has become a powerful annual tradition in northwest Louisiana, combining fitness with remembrance.
