Usman Khawaja is undecided about a post-career move into politics, but will continue to speak up about humanitarian issues close to his heart.

It is why the 38-year-old Test opener and father of two daughters met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra last month. The plight of the Palestinian people of Gaza and the killing of thousands of children by Israeli forces were front and centre of the discussion.

Khawaja has called for increased sanctions on Israel and more humanitarian aid for Gaza.

Last week, respected international aid agency Save the Children said in a statement: "At least one Palestinian child has been killed every hour on average by Israeli forces in Gaza in nearly 23 months of war, with the number killed now surpassing 20,000."
