PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Disability advocates are scrambling and said they are fearful their children with severe diagnoses will soon regress because of a lack of care.

This stems from rollbacks to a popular program that pays parents to care for their children with special needs.

The changes are set to take effect Oct. 1 and moms like Brandi Coon are hoping to stop that from happening.

Her son, Tyson, is 10 years old and lives with profound disabilities. Coon said he suffered a traumatic brain injury as a baby, causing epilepsy and cerebral palsy.

“I’m proud to be his mom and his advocate,” said Coon.

Advocating for Tyson means pushing back on a state policy update . She worries her son and other children like him are about to lose access to care.
