DES MOINES, Iowa —

Some intense late summer heat is expected today with temperatures potentially challenging record highs in the mid-90s. The heat sticks around into next week ahead of storm chances mid-week.

Cloud and a few showers around on Friday helped to keep highs out of the 90s for the metro, but that will not be the case today. Partly cloudy skies this morning will mean plenty of sunshine after sunrise, with temperatures warming from the upper 60s and low 70s early today to the upper 80s by Noon. There is a little more humidity in the air today, but it is still considerably lower than what we saw in August so thankfully heat index readings won't be a major concern today.
