2025 Emmy Awards host Nate Bargatze is donating money to the Boys & Girls Club as part of his duties, but one catch to his donation has sparked backlash online. Bargatze initially pledged $100,000, but, in order to keep Emmy winners on track, for every second they go over their 45-second speech allotment, $1,000 will be deducted from the total. Additionally, for every second someone goes under, $1,000 will be added.

Despite the intention, the bit, which included the donation total flashing onscreen as winners give their speeches, has stirred some backlash online. Though most appreciate Bargatze's ultimate goal, a lot of the responses point out how this sentiment clashes with that of the winner's speeches, which are supposed to be a celebratory moment.
