A boat exploded Sunday and ejected four occupants in Belverdere Bay in Harrison Township, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said.

Around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, the vessel was anchored in the bay with two adults and two kids. When they attempted to leave and the engine compartment flamed up and exploded, according to authorities.

Everyone was ejected from the boat, investigators reported.

Another vessel helped the four from the water and transported them to shore.

The Harrison Township Fire Department provided medical treatment.

Three out of the four sustained injuries during the incident, officials said. They were transported for more medical attention and listed in stable condition.

Deputies with the MCSO Marine Division extinguished the burning boat and had it towed.
