OHIO, USA — Ohio's state parks system was awarded a national gold medal of excellence, and achievement it won over fellow finalists in the states of Wyoming and Florida, according to a press release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Wednesday.

The award, given by nonprofits American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and the National Recreation and Park Association, celebrates Ohio State Parks for its excellence in park and recreation and management. In the press release, ODNR said it also celebrates the department's commitment to innovation, accessibility and conservation.

Ohio State Parks, which number 76 in total, are free to enter. ODNR also emphasized its 9,300 total campsites, 1,200 miles of trails, 10 lodges and 7,100 annual educational programs as reasons
