EDMONDS, Wash. — The man found guilty of shooting and killing a rideshare driver in Edmonds in January 2024 was sentenced Wednesday.

Alex Matthew Waggoner was sentenced to 19 years and seven months in prison. He was convicted of murder.

Abdikadir Shariif, 31, was killed in his car near 236th Street Southwest and Edmonds Way on Jan. 3, 2024.

Court documents said Shariif was making a left-hand turn while distracted and looking down at his phone when he nearly hit Waggoner, who was in a crosswalk. Shariif was seen in a dashcam video rolling down his window to apologize when Waggoner immediately started shooting at him. Shariif was taken to the hospital, where he died.
