SCRANTON, S.C. (WBTW) -- A group of Florence County first responders on Wednesday put down their safety gear and picked up some tools to bring joy to a 9-year-old girl battling leukemia.
In the tiny town of Scranton, family is a way of life -- and a custom-built playground in Kimmy Hutchinson's backyard is proof of that. South Carolina state troopers joined members of the Hope Springs Fire Department, South Lynches Fire Department and Florence County Sheriff's Office to create a safe and fun place for her to play.
Fast work that will make a lasting impact, Kimmy said.
"I'm just really grateful. I was expecting it to have one of those types of swings, but now all of this," she said.
