VANCOUVER, Wash. (KPTV) - Two people - a father and a 6-year-old child - are dead after being hit by a pickup truck in Vancouver on Wednesday afternoon.

Vancouver Police say the two were hit while walking down the street along Northeast 137th Avenue just south of Northeast 65th Street.

Officers responded to the crash at around 1:20 p.m., where they found the father lying in the road. He died at the scene.

Police say the child was found in a ditch about 10 feet from the crash site and was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

At 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said the child had also died.

Officers arrested the driver, identified as 73-year-old James Paulson, at the scene. He faces two counts of vehicular homicide and DUI. Reckless driving and speed were also factors in th
