ST. LOUIS — Mayor Cara Spencer on Thursday announced new rules for building data centers in the city, but stopped short of the yearlong moratorium officials considered last week.
Instead, the city will require developers on all data center projects to go through a public hearing and answer a long list of questions about how they’ll impact neighborhoods and residents.
Meanwhile, city staffers will work out more detailed regulations.
Developers on new and pending projects will be asked whether planned centers will be used for artificial intelligence, how much energy and water they’ll use and how that use will affect energy and water bills for city residents. Developers will also get queried on how many permanent jobs they’ll create and their plans to limit pollution and noise.
