MECOSTA COUNTY — Deputies responded to Chippewa Hills High School at about 9:47 a.m. Thursday after a report of a possible student with a gun, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.
Per a Sept. 18 news release, deputies were joined by officers from the Big Rapids Police Department and Michigan State Police. Investigators believe a student overheard another student mention a gun and reported the comment.
The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution. A Michigan State Police K-9 team is assisting with a search of the building and interviews are underway.
The sheriff’s office said there is no indication that a student actually possessed a firearm on campus. The lockdown will remain in place until the building search is complete
