SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Violent and graphic videos can spread quickly online, and with more young people turning to social media as their main source for news, experts warn that constant exposure to graphic content can take a toll on mental health.

From violent attacks to disturbing images, experts say more children are coming across graphic videos on digital platforms. Unlike adults, kids often struggle to process what they're seeing.

"Their frontal lobes, which is where all of our decision making happens, are underdeveloped, so it can be very overwhelming," said Dr. Monique Winnett, PsyD, a clinical psychologist at St. Joseph's Health.

Research shows repeated exposure to violent content doesn't just make the world scarier for kids, but it can also desensitize them.
