On Thursday, Victoria officials provided their first update on the city’s community safety and well-being plan, which launched in July.

Victoria Mayor Marianne Alto says she expects the $10-million plan will bring a noticeable improvement to the downtown core by the end of the year.

The plan includes adding 12 new bylaw officers, four of which have already been added, with the mayor saying she expects the rest to be hired by the end of the year.

It also calls for improvements to Pandora and Princess avenues, with the fences along the 900-block of Pandora Avenue being removed by January 2026, according to the mayor.

The largest chunk of the plan, an estimated $3.75 million, has also been earmarked for rehabilitating the 800-, 900- and 100-blocks of Pandora Avenue.
