GREENSBORO, N.C. — The marketing emails work! When I get a note in my inbox and I see I have Kohl's Cash to use, I start shopping. In case you're not a Kohl's customer, shoppers earn Kohl's Cash, which is basically free money to spend in the store.

If you find something on sale and you're using your Kohl's Cash, you almost feel like you beat the system. But it's nothing like what happened in St. Louis.

A man devised a scheme to use Kohl's Cash twice and then get a refund in real money. The Department of Justice says Marshall Lampkin shopped at 40 Kohl's stores in 13 states, at least 100 transactions, totaling about $200,000.

Lampkin lives in St. Louis, and the DOJ says he stashed stuff in a storage unit. But that's not all, investigators say he also sent some of these online purc
