Savannah man sentenced for possession of machinegun

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A Savannah man was sentenced to 37 months in prison on Sept. 11 for illegal possession of a machinegun, which he pleaded guilty to in April 2025.

Javon Edwards, 31, was sentenced to 37 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release.

United States Attorney Margaret Heap said, “Sadly, we have seen an unfortunate uptick in criminals possessing illegal conversion devices that transform semi-automatic pistols into fully automatic weapons of war. We will continue to work with our state and federal partners to apprehend these criminals and ensure they are brought to justice.”
