PORTLAND, Oregon — Big changes are coming to Lil' America , a Southeast Portland food cart pod known for exclusively featuring BIPOC- and queer-owned businesses. Some cart owners are speaking out after they were given a 60-day notice to vacate the pod.
On Aug. 29, the owners of Speedo Cappuccino, a longtime tenant at the pod, learned they would have to leave by October.
“The landlord goes, 'I need you guys to be out by October 29' — no condolences, no nothing, just 'you guys need to be out,'” said Joseph Miller, who owns the cart with partner Dahlia Hanson.
Speedo Cappuccino was one of three carts asked to leave by ChefStable, the group that manages the pod. Hanson said they were not given an explanation.
