PORTLAND, Ore. — A Multnomah County judge on Thursday sentenced former MMA fighter Zachary Lee Andrews to 50 years in prison for sexually assaulting homeless women in Portland.
Judge Celia Howes handed down the sentence after Andrews, 33, was convicted in Jan. on 16 counts, including rape, sodomy, kidnapping, sexual abuse, strangulation and assault. Prosecutors said the crimes took place between 2021 and 2022, when Andrews himself was homeless.
“You’re deserving of a sentence that keeps you in custody for long enough that you’re simply stripped of any opportunity to reoffend,” Howes told Andrews in court. “The testimony that you gave at trial showed a lack of empathy, a lack of compassion.”
Deputy District Attorney Robin Skarstad prosecuted the case and told the court that Andrews “ph
