DUNEDIN, Fla. (WFLA) — Skinner Boulevard reopened to traffic on Thursday following the completion of two single-lane roundabouts located at Highland and Douglas avenues.
According to a release by the city of Dunedin, construction on the roundabouts began last fall as part of the Skinner Boulevard Improvement Project.
Led by the Florida Department of Transportation, the addition of the roundabouts is intended to enhance safety and improve the flow of traffic from Main Street and Bass Boulevard to Broadway.
FDOT reports that roundabouts not only decrease traffic delays by about 20% but also increase safety for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists alike by reducing fatalities and serious injuries by about 80%.
