COVINGTON, La. — Seniors are getting some furry friends thanks to Golden Paws, a new program from Northshore Humane Society that brings adoptable shelter dogs into local nursing homes in Covington.

The visits give seniors companionship and joy while helping the dogs socialize and find forever homes.

“Our mission has always been about creating a better life for animals. Golden Paws allows us to expand that mission and enrich the lives of people in our community as well,” said Scott Bernier, CEO of Northshore Humane Society.

Organizers say volunteers play a big role, coordinating visits and supporting the program, which also connects seniors and families to resources like veteran care, employment opportunities, and special needs support.
