A 23-year-old woman died in a car crash early on Sunday morning, the Lake County Coroner's Office announced in a press release.

Staff from the coroner's office were dispatched to an area near the Cline Avenue overpass on Interstate 80 just before 2 a.m. and the victim was pronounced dead at 2:38 a.m. The Indiana State Police and the Gary Fire Department also responded to the crash.

The victim was found to have sustained multiple burns and blunt force traumatic injuries, and her death was ruled a motor vehicle accident.

The victim has been preliminarily identified by family members through her tattoos, the coroner's office wrote, and is believed to be Chicago resident Faith Vandell Mitchell.

" Official identification is pending DNA or dental records," the statement added.
