DYER — A car hit a pedestrian Sunday night, killing a 26-year-old man from Dyer.

Lake County Sheriff's Department officers responded to the 9900 block of Sheffield Avenue in unincorporated Dyer around 11:06 p.m. after a driver, traveling north, struck what was initially thought to be a deer. Upon returning to the area, the driver discovered the vehicle had hit a pedestrian.

The Lake County Coroner's Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Noah Michael Vander Zanden and confirmed he died of multiple blunt force injuries.

Police said he was wearing dark clothing and walking on the east side of the road. The area does not have any streetlights.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident is still under investigation.
