SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A Sandy Springs officer was seriously injured late Saturday night when a motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and was ejected from it, before the unmanned motorcycle continued on and hit the officer.

According to the department, the motorcyclist was allegedly driving under the influence at the time of the wreck.

It happened on GA-400 northbound past Hammond Drive around 10:30 p.m., according to Sandy Springs Police.

The department said it was a patrol officer working an earlier crash on GA-400 who was injured. Sandy Springs Police Sgt. Leon Millholland said the officer was out of surgery Sunday afternoon and in stable condition. He was not able to provide details on the injuries and recovery beyond that the officer had broken bones.
